Master Shin In-Young is the 5th-generation master of the historic Shin Blacksmith shop, established in Anseong, South Korea, in 1845. He is a designated Intangible Cultural Heritage Treasure for his preservation of traditional Korean blacksmithing techniques. Master Shin produces a wide variety of handmade knives and farm tools, utilizing traditional methods such as hammering steel from repurposed railroad tracks a thousand times for durability and a unique, sharp edge. His craft is a testament to simplicity, elegance, and the preservation of a rare and valuable tradition, with a commitment to passing down his skills.
Material: Handle: chestnut or oak wood, shade-dried for years to achieve the correct weight, stability and water resistance. Blade: made from the strong steel used for railroad tracks.
