Raglan Wool Overcoat in Malted Barley Slub Donegal

The Malted Barley Slub Donegal is a new development for this season and is particularly special. When a current family member who runs a mill in Donegal found a sportcoat from the 40s using fabric his relative helped weave, he knew he wanted to bring it back to Ireland with him. At last years development meeting, he showed the fabric’s depth of color, yarn irregularity, and overall finish, so a similar piece in coating weight was redeveloped.

The fabric development started by working with these little puffs of raw wool, called "pads". With the pads, one must look at both final yarn colors, as well as the colors of the flecks you find in Donegal Tweeds. Through some trial and error, the Malted Barley colorway, rich with creams, browns, and reds throughout the slubby fabric was created.

The Raglan Coat is voluminous and allows for ease of movement and a great shoulder line. The collar is large (as all good collars are) and looks just as good flipped up to block the wind and frame the face as it does put down (strongly suggested to keep it flipped up, though). There is a detachable throat latch for when things get really blustery (it comes stashed inside the front placket). All in all, this is our ideal coat and will serve both its first and likely a couple of owners after that.
